Drew Spencer (1997)

I wrestled at Penn State from 1993–1997. I am currently a teacher and a high-school coach of a very successful team. While coaching at North Allegheny, in six years I have had two wrestlers win state championships. One became an NCAA champ for Northwestern (Jake Herbert), and many others placed at the state tournament. All six years of my coaching we have won our section. Many of these skills I learned from wrestling at Penn State, which has taught me a lot about wrestling and even more about life. I made many life-long friends, and these experiences have made me the person I am today. In some people’s eyes I might not have had the most successful career at Penn State, due to my being injured and having both of my knees reconstructed. (When people say they have some Penn State in them, I literally do—four screws). I try to take the lessons and work ethic I learned at PSU and instill them into my wrestlers. One of my favorite memories was working out with John Hughes and knowing I was wrestling the best in the nation. Thanks.
