A Note From Casey Cunningham

Penn State Wrestling Fans!!!!!!!!!!!

We are now into the heart of the schedule, and it will continue on for the next 5 weekends until we have a weekend off before the Big Ten Tournament.  We had good training over Christmas break, and it has been fun to watch these guys continue to make progress each weekend since then.  This weekend we are in Maryland in front of a sold-out crowd so that is what we look forward to next.

Since my last update we have had 4 dual meets.  First, we made the long trip out west to wrestle Oregon State in front of record crowd for them and came out on top with a 36-3 win.  It was a long trip but was fun to see some of our young guys step up and compete hard and for some of our veterans to wrestle some experienced competitors and compete well.  There are always lessons to be learned win or lose so overall was a good trip.  Next up we wrestled Indiana at home for our 69th straight sell out and came out of that one with a 46-0 victory.  We then went on the road to Michigan for a double dual weekend with Michigan and Michigan State.  We beat Michigan 27-9 and Michigan State 35-0.  The scores look lopsided but there were a lot of great matches in both of those duals.  We had a few guys sick, so some other guys stepped into the lineup and competed great.  It is always fun to see somebody get an opportunity and for them to take advantage of it.

As I mentioned above, we are back on the road again this weekend in Maryland on Sunday. Maryland has continued to get better year over year with guys that will wrestle hard, so we look forward to a scrappy match on Sunday.  We generally have a lot of Penn State fans in Maryland so it will be fun to see a large contingent of our fans at this event.  We will also have at least 6 guys competing at the Lock Haven tournament on Sunday.  It is going to be a fun weekend.

This time of year it is still about taking risk/making mistakes, enjoying the process, making adjustments, hustle, and competing with an attitude.  The truth is this never really changes for our guys as this is the message year-round to them as there is always the next thing they are getting ready for.  Many of our guys want to win National, World, and Olympic Titles and once they do that they want to figure out how to win the next thing.  There is always something our guys are working towards and that is what makes wrestling so awesome.  This is a sport that is continually evolving so wrestlers need to be able to make changes/adjustments or they will get left behind.

We look forward to seeing a ton of fans in Maryland on Sunday and look forward to our 70th straight sell out the following Friday.  Thank you for your continued support.

GO LIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Former Penn State wrestler Clay Steadman has been doing “Where Are They Now” podcast with Penn State wrestling alumni and those have been uploaded to the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club- Rokfin page for those that are interested.  There are about 10 of them in there now for people to enjoy and that number will continue to grow. https://www.rokfin.com/NLWC
