Although I was never a star on the team of Coach Speidel, I remember him with great fondness. He was a wonderful teacher and produced winning teams every year that I was at State. From 1934 until 1938 State sent several wrestlers to the Nationals and produced several finalists and champions. Before each match Speidel spoke to each of us calmly and with great inspiration. He did much to build the reputation of State as a powerhouse in collegiate wrestling.
