NOTES: Penn State Hosts Edinboro Sunday in Dual Finale

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team (11-0, 8-0 B1G) will host the Edinboro Fighting Scots (2-11) on Sunday, Feb. 25. The teams tangle at 2 p.m. in Rec Hall in the dual finale for Penn State. All rankings listed are InterMat individual/InterMat TPI.

The Nittany Lions are coming off a 22-13 win over Nebraska last Sunday in Rec Hall. The win improved Penn State to 11-0 overall and capped off the Big Ten dual season for the Lions at 8-0. The Nittany Lions claimed their 10th Big Ten Regular Season Championship under head coach Cael Sanderson.

Penn State’s line-up features freshman Braeden Davis, who is 15-2 and ranked No. 8 nationally. Sophomore Aaron Nagao is 9-4 and ranked No. 11 at 133. Senior Beau Bartlett is 17-0 and No. 1 at 141. Freshman Tyler Kasak is 12-3 and No. 9 at 149. Sophomore Levi Haines is 14-0 and No. 1 at 157. Freshman Mitchell Mesenbrink is 18-0 and No. 6 at 165. Senior Carter Starocci is 11-0 and No. 1 at 174. Graduate Bernie Truax is 10-3 and No. 6 at 184. Senior+ Aaron Brooks is 13-0 and No. 1 at 197. Senior Greg Kerkvliet is 11-0 and No. 1 at 285.

Edinboro enters the dual meet coming off a tough 41-7 loss to Lock Haven last Saturday. The team owns wins this year over Bloomsburg (31-7) and Sacred Heart (27-14). Penn State leads the all-time series with Edinboro 13-3. The two teams last met on Jan. 7, 2011, when Penn State posted a 37-12 victory in the Virginia Duals.

The Nittany Lions will next prepare for the 2024 Big Ten Championship at the University of Maryland. The two-day event serves as the NCAA qualifier for the Big Ten’s 14 teams and runs Saturday-Sunday, March 9-10. Saturday’s first session begins at 10 a.m. with the second session set for 5:30 p.m. Sunday’s third/fourth session starts at 1 p.m. with the Big Ten Championship Finals slated for 4:30 p.m.
