UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Nittany Lion wrestler Josh Barr has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the week ending Dec. 8, 2024. Barr’s honor is the second Big Ten weekly wrestling honor for Penn State this season.
Barr dominated No. 6 Michael Beard of Lehigh on the road, rolling to an 11-3 major decision over the sixth-year senior and All-American. Barr picked up three takedowns, including two in a strong third period, to roll to the win. Beard’s victory was one of nine for Penn State in a 36-3 win over the Mountain Hawks in front of a sold-out crowd in Allentown, Pa.’s, PPL Center. Nearly 10,000 fans packed the venue to watch Penn State roll to victory. Barr is now 4-0 with two pins and a technical fall.
Penn State is 2-0 in dual meets this season. The Nittany Lions return to action on Sunday, Dec. 15, when they host Wyoming at 1 p.m. The dual meet has been moved to the Bryce Jordan Center due to the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament taking place in Rec Hall this coming weekend. The 1 p.m. start time remains the same. All rankings listed are InterMat/InterMat Team TPI.
